RAVidEn system overview.

RAVidEn is a camera application for Axis cameras. It connects to the machine's controller, draws the live values on the camera's video streams, and can also write the same data into the picture itself as the DataBorder, a ring of blocks around the edge of the frame. Because the data is in the pixels, it travels with the video into the recorder, into an exported clip, and into a screen recording.

The decoder is a desktop application for macOS and Windows. When you give it a clip, or point it at the camera's stream, it reads the DataBorder back out and shows every value on a timeline beside the video. A trust band on the timeline shows whether the data came from the camera untouched.

Requirements

Requirement	Details
Camera	An Axis camera with an ARTPEC-9 chip, running AXIS OS 12.11 or later.
Machine data	A PLC or a robot controller that the camera can reach on the plant network.
Recorder	Any NVR that records an RTSP stream. Nothing changes on the recorder side.
Decoder	A macOS or Windows laptop.

Getting started

Set up the camera app

Install the application on the camera, connect it to the controller, choose the tags to show, and lay out the overlay. Then turn on the DataBorder.

Use the decoder

Install the decoder, open a clip or record the stream, and read the values from the timeline. Cut clips that carry their data with them.

If something is not working, both sections end with a troubleshooting page: one for the camera and one for the decoder.

RAVidEn is an early release, tested on limited hardware. The package is unsigned, so the camera must allow unsigned apps. See the install page.
